Foods for Glowing Skin!

In addition to regular facials and drinking water, eating the right foods can help keep your skin glowing!  These tips from Self.com help give us the super foods we need to keep in our diet for great skin!

Help banish blemishes with

Vitamin A, it helps by drying up sebum that can mix with dead skin cells to clog pores causing blemishes! Eat Zinc rich foods, it can tame oil production in the skin.

Find Vitamin A in leafy greens such as spinach, sweet potatoes, carrots, red bell peppers, and asparagus

Zinc is found in: raw oysters, turkey, pork loin and skim ricotta cheese.

I also recommend a Glycolic or Alpha/Beta Peel, $90.  The exfoliating properties in the peel will help with skin renewal, help to dry out the blemishes you currently have and the salycilic acid will help to kill P-Acnes bacteria that causes acne.

Help Dry, Dull Skin with:

Certain B Vitamins found in: chicken, canned light tuna, wheat flour, beef sirloin

Biotin:  We know Biotin can help grow your nails and hair longer, but it can  also help with skin cell turnover too!  Found in eggs, avocado and salmon.

Help with signs of Aging:

 Vitamin A, C & E

Found in:  Broccoli, Red Peppers, Papaya, Pineapple, Nuts & Almonds, Pureed tomatoes, and spinach

With dry, dull aging skin, I recommend a Microdermabrasion Treatment, $100, in addition to eating these super foods.  The treatment helps to minimize fine lines, wrinkles, "age spots", evens out skin tone and can help with any acne scarring as well!  It will help speed up the cell renewal process in the skin and bring the younger, plumper cells to the surface, helping your skin to look younger and glowing!

How to get Rid of Blemishes at any Age!

You're no longer a teenager, so why are you getting a breakout and how do you take care of it?

When you're in your

20s:  Excess oil production creates a breeding ground for P-acnes bacteria that causes acne & clogged pores.  You can fend off the breakouts by using a cleanser with glycolic or salicylic acid to control the oil and exfoliate the skin to keep it from getting so clogged.  (MD Formulations Basic Glycolic Cleanser, $32 is available at Bellezza)

30s: When your in your 30s, your skin cell turnover rate has begun to slow down and as a result, dull flaky skin can get trapped deep inside of your pores. Exfoliating can help keep skin smooth.  Cleansing your skin with the Clarisonic ($195), daily will help to keep your skin clean and blemish free!

40s:  If you thought you were out of the woods for any blemishes, you'd be wrong!  Your estrogen levels have decreased and testosterone is starting to increase, which can trigger major acne flare ups.  Collagen production is also low, making the skin become thinner looking.  You can spot treat your acne with a benzoyl peroxide acne treatment (MD Formulations Benzoyl Peroxide Treatment 10%) and to up the collagen in your skin, try a Microdermabrasion treatment with light therapy, ($100).

50s: Lessening collagen in the skin causes it to be red and inflamed.  Regular microdermabrasion treatments will jump start your cell-turnover rate to a faster rate, and the light therapy helps to rebuild your collagen production.
